Sir Bobby Robson brought England close to World Cup victory

Sir Bobby Robson, a great player and even better manager, will be well remembered in football as a winner and man of the home team.

As a player Sir Bobby was a deep forward who loved the ball at his feet.  Later as a manager he favored slick passing on the ground and the beautiful game.

He took little Ipswich to glory, bagging the UEFA and FA Cups.  Then he took England to the World Cup semifinals in 1990, close enough to taste the ultimate victory.

At the height of his magic in the 90′s he was a winning manager bringing home trophies more years than not.  His approach to the game worked for the teams he managed in England, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain; he was a master of the game internationally.

In 1999 Sir Bobby returned home to manage Newcastle, the home club of his youth affections, and he ended his football career there.  Now he has returned home again for good and will be greatly missed by all who love football.
